FIVA to help ECOSOC shape global transport debate

ECOSOC, one of ‘the six main organs’ of the United Nations, has granted consultative status to FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or international federation of historic vehicles) in a major step forward for the historic vehicle community. The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) is focused on generating international debate on sustainable development. By granting consultative status, it has empowered FIVA and its worldwide network of owners, drivers and enthusiasts to have global influence on the future of historic vehicles. Our Middle East Ambassador Rony Karam from Lebanon has been instrumental for making two countries in the Arabian peninsula a member of the FIVA Family this year: Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Elisabeth Junek

16 November 1900 – 5 January 1994 Elisabeth Junek (née Pospíšilová), the most successful and famous lady racing driver of the Twenties, was born on 16 November 1900 in Olomouc, in what is now the Czech Republic. In 1920, she and her brother Stanislav spent time in France, where Elisabeth drove a car for the first time. In 1922, she returned to Prague and in June that year married Čeněk Junek.
