    CHISINAU Sidecar Party

A Moldovian jewel in the chain of events of the FIVA Motorcycle Commission

A group of friends and true lovers of automotive antiquity respect the events, which are under the auspices of FIVA – World Motorcycle Week. As a rule, this event is held annually in many countries. We also decided to join the global historic motorcycle movement and do it in our country. The director of ANF Retromobile AO Didenco V and the chairman of the motorcycle commission of our organization Dan Untura led this national event. We made an exposition of vintage motorcycles in the largest shopping center in Chisinau – Moldova. Thousands of people could see the carefully restored motorcycles, and they could even touch some of them. Of course, visitors saw the symbol of the event – the FIVA flag. Thanks to the Ministry of Culture, Svetlana Pociumban, who has harmonized the process of national legislation in the field of retro automobiles.

Though the motorcycles are from different periods, they all carefully restored. The restoration process was carried out in Moldova. At the same time, all standards were observed – and the type of paint, the color corresponding to the period, authentic spare parts, assembly technology, materials that correspond to the period.

There were also some cars. Recently imported to Moldova was a Jaguar XK120 OTS, from 1953, and a 1952 Mercedes 220S, imported from Argentina.

On May 12, 2019, there was a motorcycle rally. Enthusiasts from all over the country gathered in Chisinau for a classic motorcycle ride. The event was held under the auspices of FIVA and the country’s ANF, Retromobile AO. There was a lot of press and television. At the starting point, people with children also came, as well as old people who looked at the vehicles with admiration – because they remember how these beautiful motorcycles drove through the streets of our city years ago. After all, many of them had them. This event was over the day. We started at 12 noon and moved to another park in our city. We rested a bit and again on the main avenues of the city. The last point was near the national theater. As well as a run on a pedestrian street right in the center of the city, fully covering 50 km.

A large gathering of people was present. They lined the streets, and waved and smiled. They saw young people who drove motorcycles and who cherished the automotive and technical heritage. Viewers understood that though they are in collections, they can still be seen, felt and smelt.

Most motorcycles were Soviet-made or Czechoslovakian. In the last century, we had no others. It is very rare when a German-made WWII motorcycle could be found in a village. All the 50 motorcycles that participated in the ride had no problem, and not a single motorcycle broke down during the tour.
