From November 13 to 25, 2024, the Hainan Open International Classic Cars (HN-OPEN) made its dazzling debut in Sanya, Hainan—often called the “Oriental Hawaii.” This marked the first time an international high-end historic vehicle event of such scale and prestige was held in Hainan. Beyond creating a stir in Sanya and Hainan, the event captured attention across China and the global historic vehicle community, establishing itself as a new cultural hallmark for the region. The Classic Vehicle Union of China (CVUC), FIVA's national authority in the country, played a crucial role in organizing this event and ensuring its success.
Organized under the guidance of Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) and the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, HN-OPEN brought together 68 historic cars from 16 countries, including iconic brands such as Bugatti, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce. The average age of the participating vehicles was an impressive 69.6 years, with the oldest—a 1926 Bugatti T37 GP—nearing its centennial.
Centered in Sanya, the event showcased its cultural and automotive splendor through a multi-city tour around Hainan Island. The journey spanned 1,008 kilometers and visited key cities, including Changjiang, Haikou, Wenchang, and Wanning, before culminating back in Sanya.
The official proceedings began on November 15 with a grand welcome ceremony at Sanya Happy Hour, where participants experienced an immersive display of Chinese culture. The following day, a city parade—led by the Sanya State Guest Special Police—saw historic vehicles traverse a scenic 90-kilometer route through landmarks like Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay.
On November 17, the event’s rally was launched from Dadonghai Square, with Ms. Yin Chengling, Vice Mayor of Sanya, officiating the ceremony. As the fleet made its way through Hainan, it attracted enthusiastic crowds, with locals and tourists alike lining the streets to admire the timeless beauty of the classic cars.
The event concluded on November 21 with a closing ceremony at Sinopharm Duty-Free Mall and a gala dinner. From November 22 to 24, the Sanya International Yacht Center hosted a stunning international classic car exhibition, offering visitors an up-close look at these automotive treasures.
The Hainan Open International Classic Cars event was more than just a showcase of automotive elegance; it played a pivotal role in promoting Sanya as an international tourist destination. The event boosted the city’s international visibility, enriched its cultural life, and strengthened its position as a hub for high-end lifestyle experiences.
FIVA's involvement was prominently featured throughout the event, further enhancing its reputation in China. With millions witnessing the event in person and over 100 million engagements across social media platforms, the Hainan Open has solidified its place as one of the most popular classic car events in the region.
The 2024 Hainan Open International Classic Cars event will undoubtedly remain a milestone in the development of historic vehicle culture in Asia.
